Top Five: Bars
When it comes to supping, Norwich has bars and pubs in abundance - from the most historic pub to the coolest contemporary bar.
The Coach and Horses
Close to the train station, this old style pub is a great place to go if you’re waiting to catch the train and need to pass some time. They offer a great range of beers, brewed on site at their own Chalk Hill Brewery, and really good food, so if you make a trip there be sure to take a peek at the daily specials. The atmosphere is really laid-back, everyone’s really nice and it’s just a lovely place to be.
The Rose
Not only are the staff friendly here but so are the patrons. Have some great conversation here while taking your pick from their wide variety of ales and looking at the food menu. It has a really relaxed, chilled-out atmosphere, with great service and I definitely recommend it. Different events go on - and they aren’t all beer-fests - there’s wine-tasting, quiz nights and pool tournaments. Definately worth checking it out.
Fizz Buzz
This wine bar has a great selection, hand-picked by the man behind the bar. The service is great - just sit at the bar chatting with the very friendly staff or catching up with some friends. An excellent, although slightly limited, food menu is also available. The atmosphere is very much that of a high-class establishment, so if you want to feel a bit like a celebrity, and like the finer things in life, take a trip here.
The Dog House Bar
Nice, chic décor and a well-stocked bar. What more can you ask for? Well, maybe an outside terrace...oh wait, they have that too and it’s absolutely lovely. The Dog House Bar is the kind of place you might want to go if you’re looking for a quite drink with your other half in an evening or a place to go and chat with friends on a weekend. The staff here are really friendly and the place has a really relaxed atmosphere. It’s a great addition to Norwich’s bar scene and is certainly worth paying a visit to if you get the chance.
Eaton Cottage
A quaint, traditional pub, which isn’t following the trend of catering to students. There’s a really good mix of people here, and it’s easy to strike up a conversation, not only with the very friendly bar staff but with other punters. It has a TV for watching the football on and a good selection of beers to try out in a relaxing, cosy atmosphere. If you’re looking for somewhere to go to chill out, this place is certainly recommended.
